Secure Player is an application that lets students watch lecture videos and study materials provided by their instructor. This policy explains what information the app collects, why it is collected, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

When you create an account, you provide:

• Name — shown in the app and used to identify your account.
• Email address — used to sign in to your account.
• Phone number — used to identify you to your instructor.

While you use the app, it also records:

• A device identifier — a random identifier generated on your device. It links your account to a single device so that access is limited to you. It is not an advertising identifier and is not used for tracking.
• Study activity — which lectures you have added, your playback position, quiz answers and scores, and questions you have starred, so your progress can be restored.
• Crash and error diagnostics — collected through Google Firebase Crashlytics if the app stops unexpectedly, so faults can be found and fixed.

The app does not collect your location, does not access your camera or microphone, does not read your contacts, and does not use advertising or tracking technologies of any kind.

Visible watermark on protected content

Lectures and study materials are protected against unauthorised copying. When you view them, your name and phone number may be displayed on screen as a visible watermark. This is shown only on your own device, is not transmitted anywhere, and exists to discourage redistribution of your instructor's material.

How we use your information

Your information is used only to operate the app:

• To create and secure your account and sign you in.
• To confirm you are entitled to the lectures you open, and to deliver the keys needed to play them.
• To limit account access to one device.
• To save your progress and quiz results.
• To diagnose crashes and improve reliability.

Your information is never sold, rented, or used for advertising or marketing profiling.

Photos you choose to add

You can attach an image from your device to a question in your own personal quiz. The app asks for permission to your photo library only at the moment you choose to do this, and those images remain on your device.

How information is stored and protected

• Accounts and study data are stored using Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Crashlytics) on Google's infrastructure.
• Lecture videos and files are stored on your device in encrypted form. They are decrypted only in memory while you are viewing them, and are never written to your device in unencrypted form.
• Decryption keys are held in the operating system's secure storage (the iOS Keychain or the Android Keystore) and are released only after your enrolment is confirmed.
• All communication with our servers uses encrypted HTTPS connections.

Who your information is shared with

• Your instructor can see your name, email, phone number, enrolment status, and your quiz results.
• Google Firebase processes and stores this data on our behalf as our service provider.

Your information is not shared with anyone else, except where we are required to do so by law.

Deleting your account

You can permanently delete your account at any time from inside the app: open the side menu and choose Delete Account. This removes your account and the personal data associated with it. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

How long we keep your information

Your account information is kept for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account it is removed. Crash diagnostics are retained by Firebase Crashlytics for a limited period and are then deleted automatically.

Children

The app is intended for students in formal education and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

Your rights

You may request a copy of the information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Contact us using the address below and we will respond.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version will be published on this page with a new "last updated" date.
